I love this photo. It's everything that was right and wrong about cars at that moment in time.

i see...
american land yacht with 37 ft turning radius,
european deathtrap roadster,
american muscle delivering speed in only one direction,
japanese (?) reliability and mileage, and CB radio.
and a creepy van for enticing minors when minors could still be enticed by the prospect of free candy.
oh i love the 80's.

I see nothing wrong at all with the 4 vehicles in the immediate foreground.

Speed in more than one direction is for Commies.

If my garage was just all 4 I'd be a happy man. The F-10 and the Jensen-Healey weren't the most reliable cars was what I was referring to.

Also that Monte Carlo on the billboard is pretty slick.

My dad had one back then and he hated it so he traded it in for a Cutlass which he loved even though it was the same car for all intents and purposes. I guess badge engineering sometimes worked.

It must have, the Cutlass was the best-selling car in America in the late 70s/early 80s - every parking lot was packed with the things. GM's downsized A-body coupes were nice pieces of design though.

They really were. They were exactly what people wanted at that time.

I always thought those little Datsuns looked like the cars on a carnival ride. The ones that went round and round making little beeping sounds and flashing their lights.
